BLUFF HARBOUR BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Bluff Harbour Board was held yesterday in the board’s Invercargill offices when Mr A. H. Aitken (Gore) presided over the following members:—Messrs C. S. Longuet, P. Reid, W. A. Ott, G. Wraytt, W. J. A. McGregor, W. B. Dixon, R. A. Anderson, M. N. Hyndman, J. R Hamilton and W. Hinchey. In committee the board had a conference with Mr George A. Lee, consulting harbour engineer of Auckland, relative to the proposals of the board for a scheme of reclamation and harbour improvement. Mr Lee, on the conclusion of his investigation, will report in writing to the board, which later decided to take the necessary steps to obtain legislative authority to undertake reclamation works.

The Railway Department wrote suggesting that the time-table should be altered to suit week-end trips to Stewart Island. — Referred to Standing Committee. The Tourist Department asked for details of the time-table for next season for Stewart Island.—Referred to Standing Committee. The harbourmaster’s report, published elsewhere, was received.

It was decided to instal a dynamo on the Theresa Ward to provide adequate electric lighting. Prior to the adjournment the chairman referred to the early departure for Wellington of Mr J. R. Hamilton, M.P., to attend to his Parliamentary duties, and on behalf of the board, expressed gratitude and appreciation of the efforts of Mr Hamilton when opportunity offered, of championing the claims, attractions and potentialities of Southland, and wished Mr Hamilton a pleasant time during the session.
