Sussex, October. Mataroa, indefinite. GENERAL NOTES. Thirty-one years ago on Tuesday the great naval review was held at Spithead. The Oreti is expected to sail for Port Craig at 8 o’clock this morning and from there she proceeds to Dunedin where she will go into dock for a fortnight. The Karetu is expected to sail this evening for Sydney direct. The Kurow is expected to leave Auckland this evening for Bluff via Westport, due here about July 6 to load for Wellington and Auckland. The Waikawa which arrived at Lyttelton at 11 a.m. on Saturday, cleared that port at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday for Dunedin. She is expected at this port to-mor-row and will sail later for New Plymouth. The Waikouaiti is expected back at Bluff towards the end of next week to load for Melbourne and Sydney. The Canadian Challenger which was delayed in the north last week owing to heavy gales, sailed from Wellington at noon on Tuesday for Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin, being due at the last-named port on Saturday. After discharging a quantity of general cargo from Montreal and loading products, she will sail on Monday for Bluff being due here on Tuesday, ' proceeding next day to Wellington and Auckland to complete loading for New | York Boston and Montreal. The local ‘ agents, Messrs H. L. Tapley and Company, ! advise that she is scheduled to leave Montreal on August 25 with shipments for discharge at Bluff. She is due at this port again about October 20.

No alteration is advised in the itinerary of the Calm which is expected at Bluff on Saturday to load general cargo. She will sail the same day for the usual ports. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s new motor cargo ship Taranaki which will load in New Zealand for London, Avohmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool via Panama, arrived at Lyttelton at 4 p.m. on Monday. After discharge at Dominion ports she will load at Bluff, Timaru, Napier, New Plymouth, Wellington; Gisborne and Auckland. This vessel , similar in construction to the Zealandic which arrived at Bluff some weeks ago, is due here on Tuesday to load general cargo. She then proceeds to the above mentioned ports and is due at Auckland on August 5 when, two days later, she will sail for the Home ports.

The Rotorua is scheduled to load at Bluff on August 1. The Kartigi was expected to sail from Adelaide yesterday for Melbourne from which port she will sail on July 4 for Bluff. She is due at this port on July 7 and upon completion of discharge will proceed to Dunedin Lyttelton Wellington and Wanganui. The Port Napier which is expected to sail from London on July 18 for New Zealand ports, will make Bluff a direct port of discharge, being expected to arrive here about the middle of September. Carrying general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, Bluff and New Plymouth, the Northumberland is due here about July 6.

The coastal tanker Paua which sailed from Bluff at 12.13 p.m. on Sunday for Dunedin, arrived there on Monday morning and was berthed at the Victoria wharf to discharge a part cargo of motor spirit and case oil. From there the Paua proceeds to Wellington from which port she is due back at Bluff on July 24.

Messrs J. G. Ward and Company, the local agents for the Huddart Parker Line, advise that the Ulimaroa will sail from Auckland on July 13 and from Wellington on July 27 for Sydney. The same company also advise that the Somerset will replace the Tongariro which is scheduled to sail from Liverpool on August 18 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bhiff due here on September 28.

The Huddart Parker steamer Westralia, well-known at New Zealand ports when she was in the intercolonial passenger service, is to be converted into a store ship for copra at New Guinea. The Westralia

is 2922 tons gross, and was built at Sunderland in 1897. Her last visit to Auckland was in September, 1919. The Australind Steam Shipping Company’s steamer Atholl, 4647 tons, has been chartered to load a full cargo of raw sugar at Java for Auckland. The vessel has visited Auckland a number of times, the last occasion being in October, 1927. The auxiliary schooner Huia was to leave Melbourne on June 20 with explosives for Brisbane. From Brisbane she will go to Grafton to load hardwood for Dunedin and after discharge the vessel will return to Auckland.

With cargo from West Coast ports of Great Britain, the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Pakeha wap expected to leave Liverpool last Saturday for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland on July 31. In order to take up her schedule running in the ferry service, the Union Company’s turbine steamer Maori made a daylight trip from Lyttelton to Wellington last Thursday, arriving at Wellington at 6 p.m. after a smart run of 9 hours 10 minutes from wharf to wharf and 8 hours 17 minutes from heads to heads.

A steamer bound direct to Sydney at! the present time is carrying one of the most unusual cargoes— it consists of cork. The vessel concerned, the Queen Olgo, left Lisbon on June 1.

The steamer Willaston, which left Auckland last Wednesday for southern ports, was delayed by heavy gales. .She arrived at Wellington late on Saturday night, and was expected to sail yesterday for Lyt-

telton, Dunedin, Wanganui and Port Lincoln to complete unloading cargo for Manchester and New York. From Port Lincoln the Willaston will go to Sydney to tow the steamer Westralia to Rabaul, New Guinea. Afterwards the Willaston will load copra in the Islands for Europe. The tug Theresa Ward made the weekly trip to Stewart Island yesterday sailing at 10.45 and returning at 5 p.m. She carried a quantity of cargo, mails and a few passengers. A strong swell was encountered in the Straits.

MARINE JOTTINGS

CUMBERLAND AT BLUFF. The Federal Line steamer Cumberland arrived at Bluff yesterday morning from Liverpool via Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin to load for Home ports. She left Liverpool on April 28 after loading at Blackport and at Glasgow. Colon was reached on May 14. Fair weather was experienced all the way until May 26 when a strong gale lasting for 30 hours was encountered. The voyage thereafter was

uneventful. The average speed was 12.5 knots. Auckland was reached on June 6

and she has since discharged at Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, leaving the latter port at 5 pan. on Tuesday. Loading commenced at Bluff yesterday afternoon. She is loading meat, cheese, butter and general for United Kingdom ports, and is expected to complete on Thursday evening to sail on Friday morning for Timaru to continue loading. Captain D.
