BALDWINS, LTD.

CAPITAL GREATLY REDUCED. SIR ROBERT HORNE’S EXPLANATION. London, June 26. The shareholders of Baldwins, Ltd., passed resolutions reducing the capital from £8,000,000 to £4,213,568. Sir Robert Horne, presiding, said the company’s present plight was largely due to the generous response the company made to the Government’s urgent requests during the war when they had extended the plant to meet the nation's necessities, only to find when peace arrived that they had burdened themselves with caftital charges which showed little or no return in revenue. One branch which was built at great cost during the war was responsible for a capital loss of approximately £1,000,000. — United Service.
