Best for Health

It is generally recognized that for perfect health a large proportion of liquid food must be taken daily. This can be taken as water and in liquid foods, and a very pleasant way is by consuming a quantity of juicy fruit daily, states a writer in an exchange. Fresh, juicy fruits contain a large amount of water, some sugar, health-

giving salts, and last, but not least, the vitamins that build up the health and vitality of the body. The habit of taking a glass or cup of liquid food at night is good, for it often induces sleep. To take any food that puts any kind of strain on the digestion is a mistake, for the digestive organs need rest just as much as the other parts of the body. A heavy meal, or, indeed, any indigestive food taken just before retiring to rest, is likely to cause insomnia, or at any rate unrestful sleep.

Perhaps the ideal bedtime beverage is the juice of a fresh orange or lemon squeezed into a glass and taken with hot water. This purifies the blood and keeps the complexion clear, and at the same time induces restful sleep. On waking, instead of a cup of early tea, it is better for the body to take fruit juice in water —lemonade or orangeade made from fresh fruits and only slightly sweetened can be made with hot or with cold water. In fact, the changes can be rung on hot or cold, according to the season.

One of the finest things to take if you feel a cold coming on is a breakfastcupful of hot lemon water. A better result is obtained if you have a very hot bath first, then pop into a really warm bed and drink a cupful of hot water, to which the juice of a lemon has been added, and sufficient sugar to sweeten it. Lemon juice diluted with honey is excellent to take last thing at night when one is troubled with a sore throat. A glass of hot milk is beneficial if one is feeling very tired and overwrought.
