ANXIETY IN CHINA
TROUBLE WITH TROOPS, BRITISH FORCES DESPATCHED. Rugby, June 24. The absence of control over large numbers of Chihli and Shantung troops in the coal mining area of Tongshan and Kailan is causing considerable anxiety and there is a danger of all discipline among the troops disappearing. The situation has already been rendered acute owing to their threatening attitude and internal quarrels. In order to protect British and Chinese lives and property in the area a battalion of British troops was yesterday despatched from Wei-hai-wei for Chinwang-tao, whence they will proceed to Tongshan.—British Official Wire-
