VICEREGAL. A Wellington telegram states:—The Gov-ernor-General and Lady Fergusson arrive at Waipukurau to-day by the express and will be met by the Mayor and Sir George Hunter, M.P. They attend the Waipukurau Jockey Club ball in the evening and a civic welcome on Wednesday. They also visit the District High School and Pukeora Sanatorium. At night Sir Charles, as Grandmaster of the Dominion Masonic Order opens the Jubilee Temple, while Lady Fergusson attends a gathering under the auspices of the Mothers’ Union, of which she is Dominion President.

Dr. C. H. Molloy, of Wellington, is a passenger from Melbourne by the Manuka.

Mr. J. H. Mitchell returned to Invercar gill yesterday by the Manuka after a trip abroad.

Sir James Gunson returned from England by the Niagara reports an Auckland Press Association message. Captain V. White-Parsons, of the Union Steamship Company, is a passenger by the Manuka for Lyttelton. A British official wireless message announces that Sir Alfred Mond will take the title of Lord Melcheat of Landford.

Mr. and Mrs Walter Joyce, of Wellington, are at present at Gore and are the guests of Mr and Mrs A. J. Kerse.

Mr and Mrs R. B. McKay, of Invercargill, who have been on a lengthy holiday trip to Victoria, where they visited their son, Mr J. McKay, returned by the Manuka which berthed at Bluff yesterday. A Nelson message reports the death of Captain Mark Furneaux, formerly of the Anchor Company, and for many years harbourmaster at Westport. Since his retirement Captain Furneaux has been living at Port Nelson.

Mr. L. B. Hutton, chief engineer of the Southland Electric Power Board, was a passenger on the night express on Sunday to Wellington where he will attend a conference of power board engineers.

Mr. John Fuller, who arrived in Invercargill yesterday with the Fuller-Gonsalez Grand Opera Company, organized by his brother, Sir Benjamin Fuller, and himself, leaves for the north by this morning’s express.

Mr R. McGillivray, instructor in agriculture, leaves Invercargill by the express today for Ashburton in which district he will visit farms and address meetings on agricultural subjects. He expects to return to Southland at the end of the month. Mr. C. E. Maxted arrived in Invercargill by Saturday night’s express from Wellington to take up his new position at the Borstal Institute. On severing his connection with the State Advances Department he was presented with a travelling rug by the staff. Mr. Maxted takes up his new duties early next week. A party comprising Dr. E. H. Mauk, professor of dentistry at the University of California, Dr. J. W. Roush, of Oakland, and Doctors H. E. Miller, J. R. Gill. R. E. Keys and W. C. M. Tufts, of San Francisco, arrived by the Niagara yesterday to attend a conference of the New Zealand Dental Association opening in Wellington next Saturday.—Auckland Press Association message.
