TERRIFIC GALE

AMERICAN STATES LOSS OF LIFE AND PROPERTY WIND REACHES SEVENTY MILES HOURLY (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) New York, January 25. Violent wind storms throughout the western United States killed 10 and injured many others. The damage done to property is at present inestimable. The gale reached a velocity of seventy miles per hour and pedestrians in New York City fought their way to the subway in the elevated stations against winds that made walking arduous. The waters in the harbour were churned by the gale and caused the swamping of two boats at the dock. All the liners were delayed and many injuries were caused when persons were unable, through the force of the wind to dodge automobiles.— A. and N.Z.
