TAPANUI SHOW

53RD EXHIBITION. SMALL ENTRIES RECEIVED. STOCK OF GOOD QUALITY. The 53rd annual show of the Tapanui Farmers’ Club was held on the showgrounds at Tapanui on Wednesday in fine weather. The show is held rather late in the season, and this may account for the fact that there was but little competition in most of the sections. In many cases the bloom has gone from animals that were at earlier shows in the district. The attendance showed a slight increase on that of last year, the gate receipts being £35 14/6, as against £35 last year. The club has a very strong executive, ably led by Mr D. D. Edgar (president) and Mr J. W. Jarrold (secretary). AU the officials worked well, and despite a late start the function was concluded in good time. In the majority of cases the exhibits forward were the property of the one exhibitor. This was particularly noticeable in the classes for Ayrshire cattle, aU the entries being owned by Mrs A. Wilson, while Mr N. Moore had things all his own way in the Jersey classes. Among the crossbred and fat cattle there was a little more competition, but even then there was ample room for improvement. Draught horses were not forward in any great numbers, and Messrs Coubrough and Hamilton (Kelso) had a fairly successful day, taking the male championship with a fine two-year-old, Golden Knight, by Rosencraig out of a Baron Bold mare. The same exhibitors took the female championship with another of Rosencraig’s progeny. In the class for the best male or female two years or under for the Hamilton Cup, the same breeders were again in the fore as all five animals paraded were the progeny of Rosencraig, the winner being found in a nice stylish animal owned by Mr A. Crump. The light horse classes were not strong, but one or two good beasts were shown in the ring particularly those of Messrs E. Dodds and G. Wayte (Otamita) and Miss K. Wood (Beaumont), who made a welcome re-appearance in the show ring. There were no outside entries in the sheep classes, these being confined to a few district exhibitors. Mr. D. Robertson had a successful day in the Romney classes, and also with his Corriedales. Mr W. A. Baxter was the only exhibitor showing Southdowns. FoUowing is the prize list: CATTLE. Judge: Mr R. J.
