BURNSIDE SALE. FAT SHEEP EASIER. Dunedin, January 25. A further decline of about 27- all round was noticeable in the sheep sale at Burnside to-day. There was a keen demand for lambs and it was anticipated that fat cattle would sell at values a little easier than last week. Fat cattle: A yarding of 258. The yarding was fairly large and was of good quality. There were many more heavy bullocks forward than last week. As usual there was a large entry of cows this week. Extra prime bullocks made from £l5 to £l6, prime from £l2 12/- to £l4, prime heifers from £8 to £9 10/-, medium to £7 5/-. Best cows from £9 15/- to £lO 5/-. Extra prime ox beef sold on the basis of 37/6 per 1001 b and medium 35/-. Prime heifers made 32/6, cows and light heifers from 20/- to 25/-.

Fat sheep: In this section 1908 were penned. The medium entry was of fair quality, the bulk of the yarding being comprised of ewes of which a good number were heavyweights. The entry of wethers was not as good as was forwarded at the last. sale. The demand was very poor and values showed a further decline of at least 2/- below the previous sale’s rates. Prices: Prime heavy wethers 36/- to 38/-, prime 33/- to 35/-, medium 28/- to 30/-, prime heavy ewes 25/- to 27/-, prime 22/to 24/-, medium 17/- to 18/6. The basis per lb was as follows: Prime wethers 5d to s|d, prime ewes 4d. and light ewes 34d. Lambs: There was good entry of 605 head of mixed quality. A number of pens of plain, some not killable, and a balance of fairly good primes were forward. There was a keen demand at the best rates of last week for all prime lambs, all the exporters operating. The unfinished classes were dull. Prices: Prime heavy lambs 30/9 to 32/6, prime light 26/- to 28/-, medium 24/- to 25/-, unfinished 18/- to 20/-. The average price per lb obtained was 94d. Store cattle: There was a big entry of over 300 made up of good conditioned cows and mixed young cattle together with 70 three and four-year-olds of mixed colour. The demand was keen for all classes of bullocks. Prices: Btet three and four-year-old bullocks £ll 3/-, medium £8 5/- to £9, one and a half to two-year-olds up to £6. Cows were a shade easier, but there was a good demand. Pigs: 100 fats were yarded and these sold at prices about 10/- above the reduced rates of last week. Stores totalled 50.
