Johanna Casey, relicit of the late Martin Casey, a farmer of Spring Creek, died on Wednesday at the reputed age of 102 years, says a Blenheim Press Association message.
Flags were flown at the half-mast on the railway buildings yesterday out. of respect to Leslie Miller Cumming, the shunter who met his death at Makarewa siding on Wednesday.
Mr R. H. J. Camm who leaves for Christchurch in the near future, was met yesterday by members of the Invercargill Cricket Club on whose behalf he was presented with a Loewe pipe and case by the club captain, Mr T. R. Abercrombie. In making the presentation, he, along with Mr J. A. Doig and Dr. S. Brown, who supported him, made glowing reference to Mr Camm’s ability and keenness for the game and the support he had so readily given at all times. Mr Camm acknowledged the gift and good wishes in his usual happy style.
The death is announced by a Dunedin Press Association message of Mr. Peter Hercus, eldest son of the late Mr G. R. Hercus. Death occurred yesterday after a short illness. Mr. Hercus was born and educated in Dunedin and commenced his business life in Murray Roberts and Company, later being made secretary of Wright, Stephenson and Company, which position he vacated in 1908 to go on a trip to England and America. On his return he joined the firm of Barr Leary and Company, later becoming a partner in the firm of Barr, Hercus and Company. In 1924 he was appointed secretary of the Chamber of Commerce which position he held till the day of his death. He leaves a widow.
