GEORGETOWN HALL
MONTHLY MEETING HELD. The usual monthly meeting which was held last evening was well attended, Mr A. W. Jones occupying the chair. An apology was received from Mr J. A. Lyon. A letter was received from the corporation stating that after careful consideration, and in view of the report received from the Tramways Traffic Manager, the council decided to take no action in regard to the proposed extension of the Georgetown tram line from Ceptre street to John street, an approximate extension of 25 chains. It was decided to hold the matter over in the meantime, and make a further application at a later date. It was resolved to hold a concert in aid of the hall and sports funds on August 5. Mr J. F. Campbell reported having completed the two additional cupboards. The ladies’ committee under the presidency of Mrs McKeever, reported that as a result of their activities for the past month they had raised, clear of all expenses, over £53 and had paid over to the treasurer the sum of £4l 3/7. A vote of thanks for past services was carried and the secretary was instructed to convey same to Mr and Mrs G. F. Myers who were now leaving the district. It was decided to hold an anniversary week in connection with the opening of the hall, commencing on September 5 and finishing on the 9th, and various functions will be held each evening during that period, and will terminate with a bazaar on the Friday night. Mr Holding’s offer to prepare notice boards for use in the hall was accepted with thanks. Accounts amounting to £22 1/4 were passed for payment. The secretary reported that several bookings had been made for July. The ladies’ committee reported that the Monday night quadrilles were exceedingly well patronised. It was decided to write to the Borough Council and suggest that some of the unemployed might profitably be given work in levelling and draining the borough recreation reserve at Georgetown.
