DAIRY CONTROL

THE BOARD’S DECISION MR TIMPANY INTERVIEWED' ADVICE FOR THE DAIRYMEN Interviewed by a representative of the Southland Times, Mr. T. M. Timpany, referring to the recent decisions of the Dairy ■ Control Board, said that the statements already made public showed what the board had done —that it had returned to freemarketing. The discussion on these matters had been taken in committee and in the circumstances he could not say anything at this stage touching on that part of the meeting. The result of the elections had shown conclusively that the suppliers were absolutely in favour of the board functioning along the lines indicated by the resolutions to return to free-marketing. These results were really a continuation and an endorse- I ment of the feeling which had been | manifested in Southland when he (Mr. Tim- | pany) was elected. “There is no need for i anyone to be panicky,” said Mr. Timpany, | “about the prospects for the coming season, as a matter of fact everything pointed to the possibility of a highly competitive market, and the dairy farmer would be well advised to adopt the policy of ‘wait and see.’ The board is now going to function along the lines originally laid down for it, and in the future will fully justify its existence. Big problems of advertising, shipping, insurance, auditing and other matters will now receive the consideration they warrant. Any extreme element who in the past have led us away have now not got their own way, and they should apply themselves to harmoniously working for the proper treatment of these problems. The position to-day is that the board should have the united backing of all sections of the industry and thereby fulfil the requirements the producer expected when Parliament granted the legislation at the dairymen’s request.”
