CRICKET CARNIVAL

EFFORT AT GORE. (From Our Correspondent.) The enthusiasm shown in the opening night of the Gore Cricket Club's Carnival was more than maintained at last evening’s session, when the appeals made by the stall holders and their assistants met with a very generous response from the large number of people present. The competitions were also liberally patronised and throughout the evening business at all the side attractions was particularly brisk. It is confidently anticipated that as the result of the carnival the club will be in a position to provide much more satisfactory facilities for the sport of cricket at Gore. Should the public rally round to make the final session to-night a success the club will be well rewarded for its effort. An interesting feature of to-night’s session will be the lighting of the monster candle presented by McLeod Bros. The one to most accurately judge the length of time it will take the candle to burn out will be awarded a gold watch. Some of the winners of last night’s -competitions were: —Alarm clock, Mrs F. Young; bag of sugar, Miss G. Marshall; tin of biscuits, Mrs Terry; pyjamas, P. Cooney; Mrs Hamilton’s picture, Ina Clark; Mr Hamilton’s table, F. V. Piper; sovereigns, A. Gee; sheep, H. Poppelwell; cake No. 1, Mrs F. Young, L. Badman and D. H. Miller.
