POPULATING AUSTRALIA
BISHOP OF LONDON’S REMINDER. BRITAIN THE BEST RESERVOIR. . (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) London, June 15. The English-speaking Union gave a luncheon to honour the Bishop of London, who paid tribute to Australian’s loyalty to the Empire, but quoted the opinion of many thoughtful Australians that loyalty was a diminishing quality with each succeeding generation. Therefore, he continued, British infiltration was necessary. He endorsed the “White Australian” policy, but reminded Australians that Britain was all-white and therefore was the best reservoir to supply Australia with a population. It was impossible for six millions of people much longer to hold a continent capable of carrying one hundred millions.—A. and N.Z.
