EASTERN DISTRICT SUB-UNION. (From Our Correspondent.) Last night’s meeting of the Eastern District Sub-Union was attended by Messrs G. Whittingham (in the chair t, E. M. Christie. H. G. Wallis, F. M. Murray, J. W. Aitken, I. Martin and R. S. Green. Apologies were received from Mr F. Wallis, senr. (president', and Messrs C. D. McConnel and Fitzgerald. CORRESPON DENCE. The secretary of the Southland Rugby Union advised that the Southern Sub-Union had lodged a challenge for the Sports Protection League Banner. This challenge was the third in priority as received by the union.—Received. The Southland Rugby Union advised that inj-eference to the Sub-Union’s protest against the Union’s action in granting a transfer to E. H. Diack to the Pirates Football Club, this matter was given full consideration by the Union before the transfer was granted. Mr Whittingham reported that at the last meeting of the Southland Union the chairman had explained that Diack’s position at Mimihau was only a temporary one and that he would soon be resident in Invercargill. He also admitted that the application for transfer should have been made through the Eastern District SubUnion. The secretary of the Southland Referees’ Association wrote acknowledging a letter from the Sub-Union asking that representatives of the association visit the Eastern District and lecture on the rules of the game. He had been directed to ascertain whether the Sub-Union w’ould be willing to meet the cost of conveyance for members to visit the Eastern District as suggested.— The secretary reported that he had advised the association that the Sub-Union would pay all reasonable expenses.—The secretary’s action was confirmed. A letter was received from the Mataura Club advising that it could not see its way to enter another second grade team, as it would practically amount to asking second grade players to play third grade against second grade teams. If the Sub-Union could not do anything in the matter of raising the age limit for third grade players it would mean a number of players dropping out of Rugby and perhaps joinjpg up with the local soccer team.—lt was decided to hold over the letter for a week, the Mataura delegates to meet the club with a view to having it enter another second grade team. F. M. Fisher applied for a transfer from the second grade Kaikorai team to the second grade Pukerau team.—Granted subject to clearance being in order. The Edendale Club advised that it did not raise any objection to the transfer of H. C. Grace to the Wyndham Club.—Received. The Wyndham Club advised that it would be unable to field a second grade team.—A sub-committee was appointed to rearrange the second grade fixtures. BOUNDARY QUESTION. Mr Whittingham reported that at the last meeting of the Southland Union the question of boundaries had been discussed, when it was practically decided that Mandeville should be included in the Eastern District Sub-Union’s territory. The Sub-Union, however, had had no option but to concede that piece of territory known as Baxter’s Corner. The Sub-Union’s boundary was now very closely defined and should present no difficulties.—A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Whittingham.
