DEBARRED FROM WORK
A SEAMAN’S CLAIM. WALSH’S CAREER. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, May 5. In the case where Brennan, a seaman, seeks £lOO damages from Walsh, Newfield, and the Seamen’s Union, on the ground of threats against prospective employers to prevent him obtaining work, under crossexamination Walsh refused counsel a direct ’ answer on the question whether he was a Communist. Asked why he changed his name from Tuohy to Walsh, he said he was victimised in America and unable to get work. He had been in industrial trouble many times in America. Walton, an A.B. on the Kaim.ai, said the crew’s decision against Brennan was come to ’entirely on its own initiative. Neither Walsh nor Newfield came down to the ship. Newfield is now under examination.
