The steamer Toiler, which has been bought by the new Canning Company at Bluff, was to leave Wakatane yesterday in charge of Captain I. L. Petrie. The Oreti was schedeuled to sail from Dunedin yesterday for Invercargill and Port Craig. She should arrive here to-day. The Wingatui was expected to sail from Auckland yesterday for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. Bound from Calcutta and East Indian ports, the Union Company’s steamer Sussex is reported to have passed Thursday Island last Monday en route for New Zealand. The Somerset is scheduled to sail from Wellington- to-morrow for London, via Panama. The Bluff Harbour Board’s new tug Southland is reported to have sailed from Dublin on April 28 for Bluff, via Suez. Under charter to the C. and D. Line, the Denham was due at Dunedin yesterday from New York, via Wellington and Lyttelton. She will complete discharge at Hobart. The Waihemo is expected to load at Vancouver and San Francisco during the present month for Apia, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin, Bluff and New Plymouth. The Canadian Pioneer left Halifax on April 25 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland on June 6. The Middlesex is due to sail from Wellington on May 17 for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool. The Arawa, which sailed from Liverpool on March 29 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, is due at the firstnamed port to-day. A cable from Sydney reports the arrival of the Kaikorai from Bluff direct on Wednesday. NIAGARA FROM VANCOUVER. Vancouver, May 4. The Niagara has sailed. She carries the Canadian soccer team which will tour New Zealand, also seven maples which Mr Lapointe will plant at Canberra.—A. and N.Z. T.B.D. AMBUSCADE. Messrs Yarrow and Co., Ltd., Scotstoun, have now completed the torpedo boat destroyer Ambuscade, which they launched in January of last year for the British Admiralty. The vessel ran her official fullspeed trials in March, maintaining easily a speed of 37 knots. The Ambuscade is the first warship laid down and completed on the Clyde since the war, and the first destroyer of the British post-war and naval programme to run official trials. She is the outcome of experience gained during the war, and much research work on the part of the Yarrow firm. Her length is 322 ft, beam 31ft, mean draught BJft, and displacement 1,200 tons. The propelling machinery consists of Brown-Curtis geared turbines, obtaining steam from Yarrow highpressure water-tube boilers using oil fuel. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.
