BIRTH CONTROL
RESOLUTIONS IN FAVOUR PASSED. WOMEN S LIBERAL FEDERATION CONFERENCE. (Rec. 7 p.m.) London, May 4. Over 1,100 delegates to the Women’s National Liberal Federation, by an overwhelming majority, passed a resolution in favour of scientific birth control, as providing a means of increasing the efficiency of the nation. Lady Ackland said that there were people who were shocked that mothers should be able to choose how many people thej- would bring into the world, but they could leave that to a generation which regarded population as cannon fodder. Miss Emma Samuel aroused loud laughter by declaring that she was 30, and men and women of her age felt that people were living too long, and as they could not be put to death they should be prevented from being born, otherwise they would all starve in the streets. The conference decided that birth-control information should be made available at the Ministry of Health centres. The motion favouring allowances for children was defeated, Lady Bonham Carter stating that a dole would enable the profligate to multiply at the expense of the thrifty.—A. and N.Z.
