THE SHOWGROUNDS.

To the Editor. Sir, —The thanks of your readers are due to your correspondents who have drawn attention to necessary improvements at the Showgrounds. One refers to the conduct of the Ram Fair —describing the present accomodation as inadequate and out of date. The truth of this is only too well-known to the directors and the question of improvements has their serious consideration but it takes money to do it. Your correspondent has evidently seen only the necessity for a small portion of all required improvements in the appurtenances of the association’s grounds It is now found necessary on account of the ever increasing entries at the Summer Show to provide further accommodation for cattle, horses and sheep. The parking of farmers’ cars on “people’s day” is another problem which has to be faced. Taken altogether it is a big job and on that account and the large amount involved it will have to be taken in sections and carried out as funds permit.

Another correspondent refers to the approach to the Drill Hall. Admittedly on the occasion of the last Winter Show the roadway was in a deplorable state although top dressed some days prior to the fixture. We would like now to assure your readers that the matter has not been lost sight of and the roadway will have attention very shortly.

The slogan of the Southland Metropolitan A. and P. Association is “Progress” and helpful suggestions from your readers and others are always welcome.—l am, etc., ADAM L. ADAMSON, Secretary.
