A novel way some Poverty Bay residents have of ridding themselves of their parental responsibilities for the holiday season was explained by Dr Hall at the Cook Hospital Board meeting last week, says an exchange. He said that his house surgeons had informed him that there was usually an influx of children into the institution about Christmas time, the majority of whom were suffering from minor complaints only. The reason given for this was that the parents could go away for a holiday while the children were being well cared for at the rate of 2/- a day.
