= INTER-CLUB MATCHES. = FIRST ROUND RESULTS. z Heavy rain on Friday night and Saturday Z morning did not auger well for the openZ ing round of inter-club matches. Before Z noon, however, the clouds dispersed and the Z sun shone brilliantly. When play comZ menced there was a keen southerly blowing z but this died down shortly after three z o’clock and from then on conditions were Z excellent. The opening round was marked Z by much good play, and even when one Z club had a decided superiority over another Z the games were keenly contested from beZ ginning to end, so that the margin of vicz tory was not always a criterion of the z strength of the individual players. Z The results of the matches are as fol z lows:— = A GRADE. | WINTON v. CENTRAL. z Central journeyed to Winton and suffered Z defeat by 10 sets to 6. Lindsay, who is play- ~ ing as well as ever, proved much too good ~ for Hudson, but McKay, Central’s second Z man, evened matters by a good victory over z Barham. Two of the Winton ladies deZ faulted their singles, but the other two se- - cured wins. In the doubles honours were easy. ~ The details are as follows, Winton players r. being mentioned first: — Z —Men’s Singles.— Z Lindsay v. Hudson 6 —l, 6—2. •• Barham v.
