Ruahine, Wellington, November 18. GENERAL NOTES. The steamer Oreti came in on Monday night to await the tide and left for Invercargill at 3 aan. yesterday. The ketch Waterlily left Bluff at 1 pjn. yesterday for Stewart Island with a cargo of gravel. It was .expected that the West Islip would complete discharge by 11 o'clock last night and would leave for Hobart. In that event the tug Theresa Ward was all ready to sail for Port Chalmers for annual docking and overhaul. She will be absent from Bluff for about a week. The Union Steam Ship Company's steamer Wingatui is expected to arrive this morning. She has on board one and a-half miles of cable for the repair of the Stewart Island cable which is being undertaken by the District Telegraph Engineer and staff. The Wingatui was scheduled to leave Dunedin at 2.30 p.m. yesterday for Bluff. She is due here this morning. The Whangape is expected to leave Sydney to-day for Bluff. The vessel is due next Thursday. The Manuka’s next trip from Melbourne to Bluff direct will be next Wednesday. She is expected at Bluff on November 7. Messrs J. G. Ward advise the following amended sailings of vessels in the West Coast of England to New Zealand service: —Hertford, November 20, cancelled; Northumberland, covers both berths, sailing on December 4; Norfolk, sailing on December 31. A wireless message received by the New Zealand Shipping Company from the captain of the Ruahine states that the vessel will arrive at Wellington late to-night from London and Southampton. The Ruahine’s cargo will be. discharged at Wellington, Auckland and Bluff. She will afterwards load at Timaru, Napier and Wellington for London. The Waitomo, from Newcastle, via Hobart, is expected at Lyttelton on Tuesday next with coal and timber. From Lyttelton the vessel will proceed to Dunedin, Oamaru, Bluff and Timaru. Cabled information reports the departure from Newcastle on October 24 of the barquentine Louis Theriault for New Zealand. The Louis Theriault was seriously damaged some weeks ago by a fire which broke out when the vessel was at Newcastle. The Vacuum Oil Company’s tanker Pulpit Point, which is to leave San Francisco about the end of this month with oil for Auckland and Wellington, was built by Lithgows, Ltd., at Port-Glasgow, and was launched on August 27. She is a sistership to the Plume, which was launched by the same shipbuilder for the Vacuum Oil Company two months previously. The two vessels are built on the Lsherwood system, and are 476 ft long over all, with a 62ft 6in moulder breadth and a 36ft mould depth. They will each carry 12,300 tons on a 28ft draught.
