RIMU NOTES

THE DAIRYING SEASON. (From Our Correspondent.) As is the case throughout Southland the district is fast assuming a pleasing mantle of green and dairy farmers are beginning to notice a marked improvement in their yields of milk. 1116 factory commenced operations about a month ago under th& new manager, Mr Henderson, who has been appointed in Mr Jones’ place, the latter having left to take charge of the factory at Northhope. Mr and Mrs H. Bulling on their return from their honeymoon were honoured in the customary manner, a large number of residents assembling at the guests* up-to-date bungalow for the purpose. Last week Mrs Bulling was the recipient of many valuable gifts from the ladies of the district. The many friends of Miss Jean Cameron will be pleased to know that she is now recovering from her long illness. Her sister, Miss Tot Cameron, is at present visiting her parents. Miss Rita McEwan, of Wyndham, spent the week-end with Mrs E. Hargest. One of the most successful concerts ever held in Rimu took place on Friday last. The school room was packed to the doors. The purpose of the concert was to raise money to effect much needed improvements round the teacher’s residence and in this the committee have every reason to be pleased with the response. The first part of the programme was contributed by the children who had been carefully trained by Mrs Hargest and Mrs M. McKenzie. Every item was well-received. Masters H. Bennett and J. Sellars acted their parts as joint chairmen with credit. Under the chairmanship of Mr J. Shand a most excelent programme was submitted. At the conclusion of the concert Mr Shand thanked the performers for their splendid assistance after which refreshments were handed round. The room was then cleared and under the capable control of Mr George Robinson and the excellent music provided by Mr F. Cree dancing was indulged in until the early hours of the morning, a fitting close to a most excellent evening.
