BOOTMAKER’S DEATH. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, October 28 At 7.30 yesterday morning, Alfred John Brockett, aged 69, who resides as a boarde? j at the house of Mrs Gillanders, OalliojMi road, Devonport, was found in an uncon scious condition in bed. When Mrs Gil landers went into his room to call him she j found the room full of gas. The windows were closed and the gas jet on the wall was turned on. Dr. Hagen was summoned and attended to Brockett but he never regained consciousness and died at 10 o’clock last evening. Deceased who was a married man j was a bootmaker. ACCIDENTAL DEATH. Auckland, October 28. ■ At the inquest concerning the death of | Alfred John Brockett, his landlady said he ; was very absent-minded and had no sense ; of smell whatever. In her opinion he had turned on the gas, struck a match and lighted a candle and then gone to bed. The Coroner returned a verdict that death was due to carbon monoxide poisoning 1 caused accidentally. A rabbiter named Alfred Hall, single, aged 34. employed on the Waiteko Station on the East Coast, was found drowned yesterday afternoon. The body was in a de composed state and death apparently oc curred three weeks ago. Deceased was in : the habit of making prolonged excursions j into the back country for rabbits, and con- | sequently he was not missed. Deceased’s parents reside at Hastings.
