" A MENACE”

FORD’S SHORT HOURS. SIR W. VICARS EMPHATIC. New York, October 14. Sir William Vicars, of Sydney, in the course of an interview to-day, said that Ford was as great a menace to America as white ants were to Australia. The constant shortening of the hours of American labour ultimately might work, he added, but he saw no immediate benefit to the workers, and certainly none to the housewives or farmers. He was surprised to find the quality of the sheep in the middle west almost equal to that of the merino. They bore an excellent quality wool. He saw an increasing market in America for expensive Australian wool. Sir William will visit the great factory centres in New England. He is convinced ' that the Australian idea of moving factories to the centres of raw production, as against the centres of population, is unsatisfactory. He considers the outlook for the world’s ; wool market next vaaj is excellent.-—(Sun ' Special.)
