STORMS IN BRITAIN
LOSS OF CROPS AND LIVE STOCK. London, October 26. A series of violent storms introduced winter in Scotland. Several churches were struck by lightning and great havoc was wrought in the forests. As nearly half the root crops have not been lifted growers are faced with heavy loss owing to frosts. Torrential storms extended over a good part of England and Wales where many sheep perished in the mountains.—A. & N.Z.
