t BANNED IN VICTORIA. i —-T • A CIRCULAR TO TEACHERS. ’ The Victorian Education Department, in a circular which it has issued to teachers, has definitely set its fact against the practice of exploiting schools for commercial ’ or charitable purjioses. It has instructed that proposals to use the organisation of the schools in any way to forward the in- > terests of showmen who represent certain 5 moving pictures as having an “educational value,” or vendors of pictures, novelties, re3 quisites, or other wares, are not to be 1 entertained. 5 The promotion of essay or other competir lions for which, firms desiring to advertise f goods are prepared to offer prizes, or the r accepting of free school requisites bearing » advertisements are forbidden. The depart--1 ment has also refused to allow teachers to 1 permit pupils to collect money in the schools - for charitable or other purposes. 1 It is laid down that the only entertain--1 ment to which scholars may be taken dur- - ing school hours are those organised or t approved by the Director of Education. In 1 no case is the charge for admission to be 3 more than 6d for each pupil, and a certain i number of free admission tickets are to be b supplied for scholars who cannot afford to e pay. In every case at least 10, per cent of r the takings must be given to the school 5 funds.
