QUEENSLAND DROUGHT

RAIN IN MANY PARTS. Brisbane, September 27. A large portion of the drought-stricken areas in Western Queensland benefited considerably by heavy rain and the prospect is encouraging for further falls. Rain has also fallen in the coastal districts.—A. and N.Z. HEAVIEST FOR SOME TIME. (Rec. 8.25 pan.) Sydney, September 27. Whole drought stricken areas in this State and Queensland benefited by week-end rain which was the heaviest for a considerable time.—A. and N.Z. RAIN SPREADS TO VICTORIA. (Rec. 12.45 a.m.) Sydney, September 27. The rain has also spread to Victoria, extending over the whole wheat area. Many sheep which had been driven in from outlying districts dropped exhausted in hundreds at Essenden, and were being fed and nursed by local residents as they fell by the roadside. They presented a pathetic spectacle, but beneficial rain prevented further losses. —A. & N.Z.
