AMENDMENT TO ACT. APPEARANCE IN HOUSE DOUBTFUL. (Special to the Times.) Wellington, September 3. An amendment to the Shops and Offices Act is believed to be on the stocks, but in view of the pressure of business and the endeavour the Government is making to close the session next week, it is doubtful whether much will be heard about the measure this session. Should Cabinet decide to launch it, it is thought in some quarters that it will probably not proceed past the first reading stage.
