Mr Vivian Page, of Dunedin, is at precent on a bueinet. visit to Invercargill, Colonel M. M. Gardner arrived in Invercargill by the through express last evening on defence business. Mr. J. Chian went north from Edendale yesterday morning, en route to his home town (Philadelphia, U.S.A.). The death occurred at Nelson of Mr. E. F. St. John, aged 72 years, who was well known in business and professional circles. Messrs B. Ellis and S. Lawn, of Dunedin, were among the passengers by the through express to Invercargill last evening. Haigh is at present confined to his house through illness, but his many friends will be pleased to know that he is progressing favourably. Mr Adam Hamilton. M.P., for Wallace, leaves Wellington for Invercargill to-day and returns to Parliament next week. Special Correspondent. Mr A. H. Mackrell. who has been on a business visit to Wellington and Christchurch, returned to Invercargill by the through express last night. Messrs A. J. Allen and W. H. Brent, of Dunedin, arrived in Invercargill by the through express last night to attend the annual meeting of the Sawmill Owners Guild. Lieutenant C. W. Hone and SurgeonLieutenant E. B. Pollard who are joining H M S Veronica and H.M.S. Laburnum respectively, arrived in Wellington by the Remuera. A Christchurch telegram states that the funeral of Mr C. E. Bevan-Brown, formerly headmaster of the Boys’ High School, was held yesterday morning. The obsequies included a service in the Cathedral, which ' was attended by thousands, including hundreds of Old Boys. The route along Worcester street was lined by present pupils in double rows. Wreaths were sent from ! all over the country. At Wednesday's meeting of the Otago j High Schools’ Board of Governors the chair- , man (Dr. G. E. The motion was carriAl after Mr. J. M. Gallaway had spoken of •ie respect in which Mr. Park was held. The members of the Northend Bowling I Club attended in strong force at the Club-hcu-e last evening to fake part in a social function arranged in honour of Mr J. A. Nisbet. who s shortly leaving Invercargill to take up h s residence in Auckland. The club's president. Mr T. Meredith, on behalf of the members expressed the sincere regret of all at Mr Nisbet’s departure and referred in appreciative terms to the ready assistarce that he had at all times given to the affairs cf the club. The president's remarks were endors'd by Messrs W. B. O'Toole, J. Shand and T. Wailace, all of whom wished Mr Nisbet every success and long life in his new home. Mr Nisbet thanked the pp**akpr- and the club members for their appreciative remarks and said it had always been a pleasure to him to do what he could for the club. Their token of esteem, a solid silver cigarette case, would be greatly valued and would be a memento of the many pleasant years he had spent with the club members.
