A PECULIAR CASE
RECENT ALTERATION IN BY-LAW. POSSESSION OF A HOUSE. (Per United Press Association.) Wellingto-n, June 17. A peculiar case came before the Petone S.M. Court bearing upon the recent alteration in the law, by which it states that an owner who regains possession of his house for his own use, must occupy it under a penalty which may be £lOO unless a Magistrate’s approval is obtained. A woman got possession here of a house on March 15 and five days later let it to a new tenant. Evidence showed that she had married rather suddenly and her husband wanted to live elsewhere but she had not gone to the Court and obtained authorisation. In view of the circumstances the Labour Department did not press for a heavy penalty and the fine was £2 and costs.
