OREPUKI

NEWS AND NOTES. (From Our Correspondent.) The weather during the week-end was very wet and on Sunday the weather was at its worst, when the wind rose to a gale and hail and rain came with it. After sundown, however, it improved and light showers without wind prevailed on the Monday. Orawia senior footballers visited Orepuki in the cup fixture and played their game in a steady downpour and semi-darkness. The game was fairly fast despite the fact that the ball was greasy and the ground was sodden. The Reds (’Puki) had the best of the game, but the defence of the Blues was very solid especially the tackling. Both teams used their feet to advantage, but no score resulted. Mr. E. D. Bone ably controlled the game. The ’Puki juniors journeyed to Orawia and were defeated by the Blue juniors by 11 points to nil. On Saturday the footballers held their Paddy’s Market and in spite of the heavy rain they did very well, the result being £22. This will help them along.very nicely. On Monday night the Hex-key girls held a meeting in the League Rooms to arrange matters in connection with the sevenaside tournament to be held in ’Puki at the end of the season.- Owing to the small attendance it was resolved to postpone the meeting until Friday June 18.
