A FIERCE STRUGGLE

YOUTH AND BURGLAR. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 15. A fierce struggle between an 18-year-old youth and a burglar whom he encountered coming away from his parents’ residence in a lonely part of Shirley took place at midnight on Saturday. The burglar eventually succeeded in making his escape, but not before the lad had recovered from him his mother’s purse and a sum of money which had been stolen from the kitchen mantelpiece of the house. A bicycle, almost new, has been stolen from someone else. An electric torch and bloodstained handkerchief are other souvenirs of the encounter which are now in the hands of the police.
