N.S.W. APPOINTMENT. A TEMPORARY OFFICE. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) Sydney, June 15. Referring to the appointment of Lord Chelmsford as Agent-General for New South Wales until a permanent appointment has been made, Mr. Lang said he was opposed to political appointments. Lord Chelmsford holds office on similar terms to his predecessor, the late Sir Thomas Coghlan—namely, a salary of £1,850 and an allowance of £BOO. The appointment has received general commendation from all parties.—A. and N.Z. A cablegram received yesterday announced the appointment for an indefinite period, of Viscount Chelmsford as AgenU Geperal for New South Wales. Viscount Chelsmford, who was educated at Winchester and Oxford, was in turn a member of the London School Board, an aiderman of the London County Council, Governor of Queensland, Governor of NewSouth Wales, Viceroy of India, and First Lord of the Admiralty in Mr Ramsay MacDonald’s Ministry.
