VAGRANT VERSE
SOLVED. (Written for the Southland Times.) Lay down the Council’s shovels, Tie up the roller’s pup, The Motor A. will show the wry To fill the pot-holes up. Each car will find its pot-hole And notify the A. That sometime,' somewhere, somehow, On some sunny day It will pick around the edges Enlarge the ugly pot Until all are merged together And one large one begot. Then patents will be taken And paddlewheels be used To send us down the channels Of the roads we once abused. And the city will be noted As the Venice of the South And the rampant pot-hole squealer Will at last have closed his mouth. —Mick.
