The meeting as a whole considered that the new league should take action in the matter, and that it would be necessary to act quickly if any good was to come of the movement to stop the destruction of such a splendid piece of native bush, the only one in close proximity to the township. Several spoke of the idea that the dairy factory and such outlets for farm produce would be benefited by the taking of tIA sections, but opinion generally was that the sections were too small to benefit in any way the district. Mr Hamilton then proposed “that steps be taken to have the cutting-up of this reserve stopped, that letters be written to the Commissioner of Lands, and that the Southland League’s assistance be solicited, and Mr Adam Hamilton, M.P., be asked to take up the matter.” An amendment was proposed but the motion was carried. The subscription was fixed at 2/6 per member. Rev. Waddell moved that the various societies be requested to nominate a member to the executive, free of membership subscription and with full voting powers. The motion was carried. It was agreed that the executive should meet monthly at a date to be arranged later. FOOTBALL.
