However, the powem that be are considering our application, and we hope for favourable results. Skating Carnival. —With the kind permission of Mr H. Akhurst in allowing us to run the tea rooms for this function the sum of £5 was raised for the League. Exhibition Court.—Several photographs of our prominent beauty spots were taken at the instance of the League and exhibited in the Southland Court of the South Seas Exhibition, and were favouably commented upon. Pavilion at South Riverton.—This pavilion has been overhauled and renovated for the benefit of tourists and travellers. Riverton Bridge.—To our repeated applications to the Town Council, to have the Aparima bridge put in order, the result I has been that the Government authorised and carried out repairs to the extent of £5OO. The League themselves organised a campaign for the raising of £35 to facilitate the pedestrian traffic, which sum was subsidised by the Town Council to the extent of one-half. The work of planking was carried out, and a great benefit conferred on the residents of South Riverton. Taramea Bay.—The planting of flax and cabbage trees at the Bay has been carried out with good results. Pourakino River.—The matter of snagging the river was gone thoroughly into. Three men were appointed to carry out operations, with the result that the river is now navigable for a distance of about ten miles, being considerably beyond the Governor’s Tables. A party from Riverton went up the Pourakino and saw the results of the undertaking. A most delightful trip was experienced, and we can confidently recommend tourists and travellers to take advantage of this delightful outing. Great praise is due to the ladies and all those members of the League, who laboured so hard to attain such a grand result.
