CLAIM FOR DAMAGES

QUARRY WORKER INJURED. VERDICT FOR PLAINTIFF. (Per United Press Association.) Hamilton, June 11. At the Supreme- Court, in a claim for £1648 damages for injuries received whilst employed at Te Kawa quarries, near Te Awamutu, heard before Mr Justice Herdman and a Jury, plaintiff was James Floyd, labourer, of Te Kuiti, and defendants were Thomas G. Martin, farmer, and William McCurdie, engineer, formerly carrying on business in partnership at Te Kawa under the style of Te Kawa Quarry Co. In summing up his Honour described the claim as ridiculous. One thought that some of the Jury might even regard it as preposterous. Plaintiff, to his Honour’s mind, suffered from a bruise and after sleeping on the claim for six months now came forward and brought an action for this large amount of money. After a retirement of 3£ hours, the Jury returned a verdict in favour of plaintiff, awarding him £3OO.
