BURGLARS SURPRISED
ATTEMPT TO ROB THEATRE.
(Per United Press Association.)
Palmerston North, April 30.
Burglars effected an entry last night into the Paramount Theatre, but were apparently disturbed as they left via a ground floor window without toucning the safe. An investigation showed marks of a jemmy on a window off an alley-way. Apparently the intruders got tired of trying to open this and scaled a fire escape and gained entrance through the operating box door, which is left unlocked, and then tried to force the office door with a jemmy, ultimately smashing the glass in the door and slipping the catch back.
