LINE BLOCKED

WASHOUT NEAR WAIRARAPA. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, May 2., A wash-out on the Wairarapa line to the north of the summit has blocked all] through trains until Monday. Trains will in the meantime run only to Cross Creek from Wairarapa and the full service wilt be maintained to Upper Hutt, but no trains will go further than that from the Wellington side. Heavy rains last night, somewhat in the nature of a cloud burst, blocked two culverts on the north Wairarapa side of tho tunnel with debris, with the result that they were carried away. The first wash-: out is about half a mile from the tunneLl The track, apart from this, appears to bej undamaged, but it is estimated that there are about 1,000 tons of mud and debrie to be cleared after the culverts are reJ paired before traffic can be resumed. I A special work train with a gang of men left Wellington at 7.45 a.m. to-day to 1 clear and repair the track. At 10.30 a.m. 1 to-day the sun was shining again so that' work can proceed in favourable circum-' stances and it is anticipated that full trafc* fic will be re instated by Monday.
