GORE GOLF GLEB

ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Gore Golf Club last evening the president (Mr R. L. Grant) presided over a large attendance of members. ANNUAL REPORT. In moving the adoption of the amiual report and balance sheet (already published) the chairman congratulated the club on its satisfactory financial position. In view of the fact that the fairways had not been in an altogether satisfactory condition the committee had deemed it wise to purchase a large mower. This would effect a great improvement in the course and make golf much more enjoyable for members during the coming season. In the past the pavilion accommodation had not been satisfactory and the question of erecting a new pavilion rhould be considered by the committee at an early date. The thanks of the club were due to Mr C. R. S. Barrett for the presentation of a stove, which was greatly appreciated by the ladies for the preparation of afternoon tea. Thanks were also due to Mr A. Hawke (secretary) for the keenness he had shown during the year. The report was adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICE-BEARERS. The following office-bearers were elected: —President. Mr A. L. Dolamore; vicepresident, Mr R. L. Fisher; secretary. Mr R. J. Ritchie; club captain. Mr F. Scott; committee, Messrs C. R. S. Barrett, R. L. Grant. M. Royds, A. Hawke, J. Perry, A. F. Houston; auditor, Mr R. S. Green. Twelve new members were also elected PAVILION ACCOMMODATION. The president raised the question of increasing the accommodation at the club’s links and expressed the view that it was most desirable that some steps should be taken in this direction. Last season plans had been drawn up for a building estimated to cost about £BO which would have served the requirements of the club for some time to come. He did not think that the club should need to fear the undertaking financially as it had assets amounting to £lOO, while the expenditure during the coming season would not be unduly heavy. Mr H. Poppelwell said that the club should be looking forward to the time when it would have its own links. It should not put up any improvements of a permanent nature but should make an endeavour to build up a fund for the purpose of acquiring a property of its own. Mr A. Hawke said that last season the committee had inspected a number of properties but he had come to the conclusion that it would not be possible for the club to obtain a suitable area sufficiently close to Gore except at an exorbitant figtire. If the links were situated too far away the club would probably lose a number of its present members. He expressed the view that it would be advisable for the club to erect a new building in such a wav that it could be removed at any time if desired. After further discussion it was resolved to recommend the committee to provide increased accommodation at the links. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. The chairman then presented club trophies won during the year as follows: Club championship, F. D. Scott; junior club championship, M. Fitzgerald; May medal, R. J. Ritchie; June medal, A. T. J. Shaw; July medal. J. McMurray; August medal, M. Daly; bogey handicap, M. J. Royds; one club, M. Inder.
