SOUTHLAND ASSOCIATION ■ . executive’ meeting REP. TEAM ANNOUNCED The weekly meeting of Southland Cricket Association was held last evening in the pavilion at the Showgrounds. There were present:—Messrs A. E. Wish (chairman), M. Stanton, P. McCallum, A. V. Poole, A. Driscoll, H. Shirreffs, P. Shaw and G. Corbet (secretary). In regard to a request by the Bluff Cricket Club, which supplies its own wicket, that a rebate on the wicket rent of £5 be made, it was resolved after a discussion that the association had no power to take this step but that an application for a donation would be favourably considered. The selectors, Messrs T. R. Abercrombie, C. Dixon and W. A. H. Oliver, reported that the following team had been chosen to represent Southland against South Otago at Invercargill on December 19: —Sparkes, Poole, Sherriffs, Keast, Driscoll. Cook, Brown, Goodsir, Dixon, Kilby, Lilley. Reserves—Wish, Johnston, Duthie and Hamilton. The Southland Amateur Sports’ Trustees wrote informing the association that £l5OO had been set aside as a loan. If no security were available the trustees were prepared to invest the money and pay the interest direct to the association. It was resolved to ask the trustees to invest the money. It was also decided to send a letter of appreciation thanking them for their services. The Otago Cricket Association wrote extending thanks for the kindly hospitality shown to the team which visited Invercargill recently. The members of the team had spoken highly of the kindness shown them. JUNIOR FIXTURES. The following are the Junior fixtures for Wednesday, December 16: — Union v. Appleby, Biggar Street, No 1. Notice to Junior Players:—Any Junior players desirous of playing against an Otago team whilst visiting the Exhibition at Christmas are requested to send in their names to either I. Campbell, ’phone 727, or M. D. Mayze, secretary. JUNIOR RESULTS. On Saturday afternoon Invercargill defeated Union by the small margin of 9 runs. The scoring was slow but despite this the game was interesting throughout. Union batting first compiled 85, Haberfield batting well for 26, the onlv other men to reach double figures being M. Mayze 12, and Giles 11. Bowling for I.C.C. Gray took 3 wickets for 10 runs, D. Agnew 3 for 13, Frampton 1 for 5, while C. Agnew, who was really the mainstay of the attack, took 2 for 32. Invercargill were dismissed for 94, Stephens 26, Southern 16 and McArthur 19, being the main scorers. For Union Giles took 2 for 16, Hunt 2 for 13, and Campbell 6 for 38. GORE v. TAPANUI. The following will represent the Gore Cricket Club in a match with Tapanui at Tapanui on Wednesday. Cars will leave the Gore Post Office at 12 sharp: Perry (captain), Hammond, Scott, Poppelwell, McCreath, Divers. McDowell, Clark, Kelly. A. Young and Shanks; emergencies. Rain and Reid. HAWKE CUP MATCH. BIG TOTAL BY NELSON. NELSON, December 14. The Hawke Cup match was continued this morning in perfect weather conditions, Nelson putting on 462 before the last wicket fell, the biggest score yet made in the Cup contests. A feature of the game was the 113 made by A. Biggar, a College boy, who is taking part for the first time in the inter-provincial fixture. He was at the wickets for 116 minutes, and gave a splendid exhibition of clean, crisp cricket. M. Eden carried his score to 87, playing attractively. The fielding of the visitors was good, but the bowling was well collared, eight men having a turn at the crease. The innings lasted 4j hours. Further scores are:— M. Eden, 87; A. Biggar, 113; Kemnitz, 31; Newman, 10; Searle, 31; extras, 13. Total, 462. Pearpoint, five for 116, had the best bowling average. With 346 in arrears, Marlborough have commenced badly, losing M. Neal, Allardyce, and Robson for seven runs. At the luncheon adjournment they had three down for 13. NELSON WINS EASILY NELSON, December 14. Nelson won by an innings and 296 runs. Marlborough were all disposed of for 50 in the second innings, Pearpoint 14 being only double figure scorer. * Bowling, Lines took 7 for 32, Newman, 3 for 10; and Searell, 1 for 0.
