AMAZING TRAGEDY

HAND GRENADES EXPLODED IN COLLEGE. (By Telegraph.—Pre® Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) WARSAW, May 7. (Received May 8, 11.0 p.m.) An amazing tragedy was enacted in the examination room of the College at Vilna, where a youth, who failed in a previous examination, produced a revolver and fired at the principal. Other students seized the assailant, but one youth in trying to shield the principal was killed. The assailant then threw a hand grenade, the explosion killing himself and another and wounding ten. Before the panic subsided, a second youth threw a bomb, afterwards firing a revolver at the professors, killing one and then committing suicide. The principal was severely wounded. It is believed that the attack was due to revenge on account of the principal’s alleged severity.
