When we were near the end of the Dell, we sat down, listening to the boom of the huge breakers of the Back Beach as they crashed on the big rocks and carried aldng with them pieces of kelp. I am sure I would not like to be at the mercy of those cruel waves. Ugh! Still it is lovely to watch them dashing along. That day, up in Ferny Dell I put a few finishing touches to my dressing-jacket. —2 marks. Qousin Olga Anderson, (14), Wright’s Bush, writes:—What a wonderful season this is! Our black-currant bushes are bearing fruit for the second time this season. The goose-berry trees are sprouting again, too. Those modest little blue violets are opening their pretty petals. Some of our scarlet carnations are again holding up their velvety faces to kiss the smiling sunbeams. Mother Nature must have forgotten and taken Autumn for Spring. The weather has been more like Spring than Autumn. Have you eVer been up in the Museum at the Technical College. Cousin Betty? What beautiful butterflies they have there! What gorgeous hues their wings have! Does it not ..seem a shame that these delicate creatures were not allowed to enjoy their short lives. —1 mark.
