SOUTH INVERCARGILL

MONTHLY BOROUGH MEETING. The monthly meeting of the South Invercargill Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last night, there being present the Mayor (Mr W. McChesney), and Crs O. Smith, E. Hewitt, Neilson, F. Holloway, F. C. Jones, G. Brown and W. Bridges. The Finance Committee reported that owing to some of its members being on holiday, it had not been able to deal with any rate exemptions on the Georgetown playing area. F. Blick and James Anderson wrote asking the Council to carry out some asphalting near their properties, both being agreeable to pay for the material.—Granted, subject to the usual conditions, that applicants pay all costs, both material and labour. Lewis Mathieson wrote, in reply to a demand for six months’ rent of the gravel reserve;- that he did not owe six months’ rent, his liability being only ten weeks, from August, 1924, to October, 1924.—Referred to the Finance Committee for a report. The foreman reported.that a considerable amount of footpath repair work had been completed during January, and the streets mown where necessary. It was decided to add 10 per cent surcharge to all rates not paid by March 10.

Accounts amounting to £535 8/6 for December and January were passed for payment.

The Works Committee was instructed to inspect the Clifton drain and the road leading to the Borough tip.
