SUMMER SCHOOL

INSTRUCTIVE ADDRESSES DELIVERED. (Our Special Reporter.) HALF MOON BAY, January 26. Beautiful weather still prevails at Stewart Island and the teachers attending the Summer School are enjoying their stay very much. On Sunday morning they were favoured with a reading by Proffessor Shelley, of Masefield’s play: “Good Friday” and in the afternoon, the majority of them made up little parties to visit various centres of interest in different parts of the Island. This morning the school set off for an all day excursion to Ulva, Old Glory and the rookeries, and en route were in charge of Mr W. Martin, who gave further demonstrations concerning bird and sea life along the coast. This evening, Professor Shelley will deliver another lecture entitled “The Value of Dramatic Methods in Education.” The School to-morrow will discuss the new syllabus arranged for the teaching of history and it is anticipated that some valuable views will be expressed by both Professor Shelley and Mr A. K. Anderson, of Christchurch, who has specialised in this particular subject. In the evening the teachers will provide a concert in aid of local Sunday School funds. At St. Andrew’s Church on Sunday night, before a crowded congregation, the largest seen on the Island for many years past, Professor Shelley delivered a very inspiring sermon taking as his text “The Kingdom of Heaven is within Thee.”
