(From our Correspondent). Members of the Hokonui Bowling Club spent an enjoyable afternoon on Wednesday playing for four prizes donated by Mr John Mac Gibbon. The green was very fast and a high wind made play difficult. The result was a surprise, the winners being two first-year players, L. G. Thomson (lead) and H, Halliday (skip), being 21 up.* The second place was filled by A. H. Smith (lead) and J. E. Ffrost (skip), 19 HPOwing to Mr Mac Gibbon being indisposed, the prizes were presented by Mr D. Harvey, who congratulated the winners on their success, the winning skips replying briefly. A hearty vote of thanks was carried by the members to Mr Mac Gibbon for his generosity, and a motion was passed j expressing sympathy with him in his illI ness, and wishing him a speedy recovery, i The secretary was instructed to write to Mr Mac Gibbon accordingly. Brackenridge who had only one “life” was left, required 4 to tie on the twentieth head and got it. The twenty-first head naturally was very closely contested and the result was in doubt to the very end, Fastier drawing the shot with his final bowl and thus winning by one point. Chegwin wanted one to tie or two to win on the last head. Walker’s team lay the shot and Chegwin to first position, but Walker came through, took kitty and stayed by it. Chegwin again tried to draw the shot but went wide leaving Walker the winner by two points, 1.9 to 17.
