WHISKY COMBINE
BIG AMALGAMATION PROPOSED. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright). (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, January 24. (Received January 25, 7.5 p.m.) The Morning Post states that a meeting of Buchanan-Dewar, Ltd., and the John Walker Distillers Company was held in London for the purpose of discussing a merger, the sum of £20,000,000 being involved. The Daily Chronicle states that a working agreement is regarded as most desirable in v iew of the Distillers Company controlling practically all the matured stores of whisky in the country. The Financial Times says that if the whisky amalgamation is eventually a combined concern, it will own the largest stores of matured and maturing whisky in the world, including practically all the chief brands and blends of Scotch.
The pending amalagamation is reflected in the recent big dealing in shares and rise in values.
