VICKERS AND SONS

CASE OF ALLEGED FRAUD SETTLED. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, January 23. (Received January 25, 7.5 pjn.) Sir John Simon told the Court that the negotiations had resulted in a settlement of the case North v. Vickers and Sons. The cross-examination of the plaintiffs’ witnesses produced a profound change in the case. Judgment was entered for Vickers and Sons, who did not press for costs, owing to the esteem and honour in which they held North. Relatives of Mr Keppel North, who died in 1919, sued Messrs Vickers, Sons and Maxim under an agreement by which North, as superintendent of Vickers’ munition works at Crayford. where vast numbers of Maxim paravanes were turned out in war-time, was to receive 3$ per cent of the factory's profits. besides a modest salary. The factory rapidly expanded, and eventually covered 30 acres and employed 12,000 men. The turnover in 1918 reached £4,500,000.
