SIR HARI SINGH
STATEMENTS OFFICIALLY DENIED. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright). (Sun Cable). CALCUTTA, January 22. The Maharajah of Kashmir, through the Press, denies the suggestions in Indian and London newspapers that the sum of £125,000 paid as alleged blackmail by Sir Hari Singh was paid out of the revenues of the State to the detriment of the administration. The Maharajah points out that Sir Hari Singh, apart from being heir to the throne of Kashmir, is really a rich man in his own right. He derived a huge fortune from his late father, who was enormously enriched by the sale of State forests in wartime. He also denies that people of the State desire to prevent Sir Hari Singh's succession to the throne.
